My 26th on YOU-oh!

Well, this is a record long time in between postings. I'm really not going to try to make this too long, but wanted to give y'all a brief update.
I have almost completely recovered from our little adventure in Ethiopia. The Lord worked out things out perfectly where Mom was able to come to Liberia just a few days after we got back from Ethiopia, and she stayed for a few weeks to help me out during the recovery time (and also to visit!). It was neat because just before my accident she had decided she wanted to visit and bought a plane ticket, so all she had to do was move the ticket up a couple weeks! She even was able to bring me a custom back brace which I wore for 6 weeks and it helped so much. We had a wonderful time visiting with her and I was so glad to have her here to see Liberia. She even sat in my office with me and did work! My Finance staff loved her!

After mom left I continued wearing the brace for about 4 more weeks, mainly to help with sitting at my desk all day during work. I had great posture that's for sure! I have continued to feel better and better since that time, and am almost feeling back to normal, besides some soreness which is expected. So, thanks for all of your prayers. God has been so good.
Ryan and I continue to be busy with work which is going well. I wanted to show you one aspect of Ryan's program which is teaching mothers what to feed their children. There are many malnourished children in Liberia, but many times due to improper nutrition rather than lack of food. For example, mothers don’t allow their children to eat eggs in some places because they think it will make them steal (or cause them to be "frisky" as they say). Sometimes the males in the house eat the best food and leave what’s leftover to the children. Here are some pics of the mothers and kids from when Ryan went to visit this program upcountry...Can you find him in the middle of the mothers and children? :) The other picture is of the mothers feeding the kids.

It is rainy season here in Liberia which I am loving! It is much cooler outside and rains quite a bit. Last month it rained pretty much every day (or at least every night) and the roads flood very fast. It's supposed to last until October.
This weekend was Liberian Independence Day (July 26th), so today (Monday) is actually a holiday for us. The Liberians will say "My 26th on YOU-oh" which means they want you to give them something for the day, money...or "sof' drink" as they say (soda).
We had a fun day on Saturday when we had one of the ladies who works at our office over to the apartment with her 2 kids, Blessing (7) and Tony (10). Marie is actually our cook at the office who makes lunch every day and she is great! Ryan told her he wanted to learn to make fried chicken the way she does, so she came over to teach him, and then we showed her how we make pizza. Tony and Blessing were very entertained with the trampoline and also the TV. They didn't care too much for the pizza though ha! Ryan also had them try queso but didn't like that too much either. They did love our masks from New Years Eve though (see below). We were glad to find a use for them! :) It was a good time.

Well, let me close with sharing a prayer request. Some of you already know this, but my Grandma (Mom's mom who lives with my parents in Georgetown and has lived with my family since I was young) was just diagnosed with cancer, specifically Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It was a shock to us all as she is extremely active and healthy otherwise. Thankfully, they caught it now and she will begin aggressive chemo starting this week. She is a very tough and amazing woman who never complains, and has a wonderful attitude through it all. Please pray that the chemo will begin working immediately so she will begin to get better. My parents, brother and Grandma had planned a trip out here to Kenya next month to meet us and go on a safari, etc. It looks like my dad and brother will still be able to come out, but it is a difficult time for all of the family, so we appreciate your prayers. Thanks so much. We trust God and his timing and know He is in control of all.
In honor of my Grandma I wanted to post a link to a blog I wrote about her a couple years ago...just to show you all how awesome she is! Check it out! :)http://daynaindo.blogspot.com/2006/10/go-grandma.html

I feel like I horrible friend! Somehow I completely forgot about this whole blogging thing. Anyways, it was great to read about what's going on with you. I have missed you a lot! I'm glad that you're much better and that you got to spend some time with your mom. I know that that had to be special for the both of you.

It's raining now, but it hardly has rained at all this year. We are in a serious drought here, so I am thrilled that it is raining right now. I've really missed the rain. I'm glad that it's raining a lot where you are b/c I know that you've told me that it's really hot.

How's your grandma doing now? She is one amazingly, strong woman. If there's anyone that can beat this cancer, it is your grandma. Love ya girl!
